Day 12
Breakfast at Lancaster’s Central Market. Then to an Amish town called Intercourse, PA, which was featured in the terrible Tim Allen movie For Richer or Poorer. There are a lot of innuendo-heavy town names in Pennsylvania Dutch country; nearby are Bird-in-Hand, Blue Ball, Virginville, and a few others I’m forgetting. We passed through Bird-in-Hand on the way and you can probably imagine...
Day 11
We went to the Mattress Factory art museum in Pittsburgh this morning and really enjoyed ourselves. Then we drove to an appropriated/abandoned Borders bookstore, where a traveling indie-press bookstore called Fleeting Pages had taken over.
Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater was next. I’m too tired to write about this right now.

Day 10
We went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame like a couple of dorks. Lots of prized objects: guitars, stage outifts, letters, hats, drumsticks, cars, plane wreckage, posters. I always try to resist fetishizing things and collecting memorabilia, since at heart I believe these are just more consumerist, I-need-more urges disguised as harmless sentimentalism, or modern forms of Byzantine/Orthodox icon...
Day 9
Summer heat in Ohio.
We had a pretty mellow day in Columbus. Went to a park that is an Impressionist’s dream. There’s a life-size topiary recreation of Seurat’s Sunday Afternoon. Next to it is a Monet-esque water-lily pond. We took a few pictures but it was too damn hot to stay long.
